The Chicken Bone (The Bone) From Bar Rescue To Close For The Summer

The Chicken Bone in Framingham, Massachusetts, which was on season 1 of Bar Rescue announced today that they would be closing for the rest of the summer.  The Chicken Bone was renamed to 'The Bone' during their Bar Rescue makeover, but they quickly went back to their original name.

In a status on their Facebook Page, the bar stated:
Dear Friends of The Chicken Bone:

Summertime has always been a very slow time of year for us here at The Chicken Bone. Many people are away on vacation and/or enjoying outdoor activities. This, combined with the changes in the economy and the rise in cost of living expenses, means we all have less money to spend on eating out and entertainment.

Up until last summer, The Chicken Bone had always been open 7 days a week. Last summer, in an effort to minimize the impact of the slow season, we reduced our operating hours and decided to be closed on Mondays. We have made the difficult decision to suspend our operations for the entire summer this year, with a re-opening scheduled for right after Labor Day.

We want to thank all of our staff and all of our customers for your friendship and support over the years. We know that The Chicken Bone would not be the special place that it is without all of you. We hope that you enjoy the summer and come back to see us in the fall for the great food and live music that The Chicken Bone is known for.

We will close beginning Tuesday June 17th and re-open after Labor Day. We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to seeing you again in the fall.

Sincerely,
Bill & John

You would think that in a place like Massachusetts that business would be better in the summer than in the winter, but who knows.  Whether they follow through on their word of re-opening on Labor Day remains to be seen, so this will be one to watch.  For now, this bar will not be marked as closed on the Bar Rescue Update list, but if anything changes, there will be another update.

UPDATE - The Chicken Bone never reopened and closed for good.  More information on the closing.

  1. This is not a good sign for the Bone. I'd wager they're down for the count.

  2. This is the guy who got nailed not too long ago for health code violations. I bet he's dropped out most of Taffer's recommendations.

  3. I doubt they make it through the end of the year. That's what happens to most owners who think they know better than Taffer.

  4. and I bet he fired the manager who had some experience in the restaurant business that guy knew what he was doing.

  5. changing the name back to the old one with the kiss of death. If I was in that much debt who am I going to listen to... my ego, or a man that has damn near 40 years of bar experience?... nuff said

  6. Exactly, these owners seem so ignorant and ungrateful!! They all deserve what they get for not sticking to the help!!

  7. Yes. And closing during the summer I never heard or seen a bar do that!

  8. Bad business move. Unless they retrain for a minimum of two weeks prior to a reopening they're going to have employees not knowing what their jobs and responsibilities are. Then, the great employees will find full time, year round work elsewhere which will result in their having not-so-great employees. Hope they have a stellar training program....

  9. If they had a stellar anything they wouldn't have been closed for being disgusting. ..

  10. The reason summer isn't as busy is because they're in a college town, I'm pretty sure.

  11. If they don't have support of the locals, they're done. Seasonal business is seasonal. You've got to have something to sustain year-round.

  13. I live in framingham and I wouldn't even eat here at all.. We use to when I was a kid well my parents did and they enjoyed it but as years went but it became such a dump.. I wanted to eat here after Taffer went and helped them out but once they changed back their name it was a no go for me.. No one seems to go here the parking lot is almost always empty not good at all. I think the doors will be closing real soon to be honest... Wish he took Taffers advice and did what he should of done instead of doing what he wanted to do it is sad because I am sure locals would of started going back their but they all know it is a dump so sad.. Angry hams is where it is at now

  14. I grew up in nearby Natick and ate in Framingham a lot! I miss my 2am Friday night run too Chi Ams! LoL! Framingham is not a College town, especially where "The Chicken Bone" is. Its in a dumpy part of town though some restaurants have gone well up that way. There's a couple of Bodegas in the vicinity that make The Beat Subs. Little Italian stores with Mama cooking out back. There use to be a great dive bar near the Bone called "The Bubble Cocktail Lounge". It was built in and experimental Fiberglass Home that never took off. The Model was turned into a couple of businesses then became The Bubble. "Forget your Troubles at the Bubble" was their quote lol!

  17. What a shame. Bar rescue really made that place look amazing. The owner must be a real moron to have let that place slip through his hands yet again.

  18. Yupp - looks closed for good and as 'Local' said, you could always go to Angry Ham's across town - previously known as Octane, previously known as Angry Ham's .... ala John Taffer - changing name back to original .... kiss of death

  19. taffer always leaves when the bar is packed with customers he employed. Then he says "my job is done here". Making look like the bar is successful, when they are not!
    Shut it down!
